Our swimming pools

We have three swimming pools at Heritance Kandalama.

The Rashmi Pool in the Dambulla wing is temporarily closed while our new conference facilities are being built.

Our pools are attended by lifeguards, but please supervise your children closely.

Kachchan Pool

This infinity pool shows the ingenuity of the architect Geoffrey Bawa the edge of the pool blends with the water of Kandalama lake, giving the impression that you are in the lake itself. Siripala, a traditional flautist from the village, also plays here in the evenings.

There are changing rooms below the pool, and we provide free towels – just ask the pool attendant.

Whether you’re soaking in the pool, sunbathing or enjoying Siripala’s music, the infinity pool is sure to become a favourite location.

Kaludiya Pool

Kaludiya means “black water” – the bottom of the pool is the darkbedrock on which the structure of the hotel rests. The surface of the rock has been coated with plastic to prevent water seepage and make it easier to clean the pool.

This natural pool is another example of Geoffrey Bawa’s ingenious blending of the natural topography with the architectural features of the hotel.

Bathing in irrigation reservoirs is a Sri Lankan tradition that stretches back two and a half millennia. As a guest of Heritance Kandalama, you can also enjoy this experience within the comfort of the hotel.

Rashmi Pool

The Rashmi Pool is one of the few features of Heritance Kandalama that doesn’t start with K. Rashmi means “ray of sunlight” – the pool is located at the western end of the Dambulla wing and catches the rays of the setting sun, making it ideal for an evening swim.

This is the largest pool of the hotel and is also equipped for sports like water polo.
